Start by finding your “Person”
Just how Meredith had Christina in Grey’s Anatomy, I believe everyone needs their “person”. Taking on a fitness challenge can sometimes seem daunting, but don’t be discouraged, everyone starts somewhere. And, taking on that challenge with a friend, will increase your chances of success. The year I turned 30, a longtime friend of mine, suggested we run a half marathon together. I laughed, for I had 2 year old twins, worked a full time job with crazy hours, and could barely run down the block!! But, we soon found ourselves on the treadmill, pushing each other to just go a little farther, til finally we crossed the finish line together!
It just might create a new habits
Just that little accountability can alter your mindset and push you past any fear or hesitation. That little shift and motivation might spark new goals and new ideas. Even buying new gym shoes or workout clothes will make you feel ready for the next challenge. Once you’ve tackled those goals, you just might find yourself being thirsty for more. If you are anything like me, the pride and joy I had in crossing that finish line, when months prior I thought was impossible, encouraged me to find more races to sign up for and more goals to smash! And, thankfully, not only is my “person” still along side of me, so are many new friends and tribe members I’ve met along the way.
Now you’re on a roll
When you share your goals with similarly driven people, suddenly your goals don’t seem so unattainable (like running a half marathon) and setbacks are not so common. We all fall off sometimes, but when you have a tribe around you, you’ll be more motivated to get back on track. You’ll have more support around you, and more buddies to go to the gym with, take a new yoga class together, or sign up for a race. Don’t be afraid to show your successes and setbacks, you’ll soon discover you have a whole team rooting for you!
A fitness tribe is simply two or more people who team up in any way, shape or form to engage in healthy behavior, build healthy habits, or achieve a healthy goal together. — Elle Penner (*Guest Blogger on Huffington Post)
Your found your tribe
When you do find your tribe, and you stick to it, you will soon feed off of one another’s drive and enthusiasm. You’ll find that that motivation and encouragement is contagious, and your friends will motivate you to keep going just as much as you will motivate them! Together you will create an unstoppable energy, and the more you can tap into that energy, the more you will feel unstoppable. You will push each other to go a little farther and push a little harder, dreaming of bigger mountains to climb. You may even find yourself climbing them together!!
